Episode 03: On Pleasing Ourselves with TL Amor

...Hookup culture, figuring out what brings you pleasure, and her advice to parents on having *those* conversations!

In this third episode of thecuriousclit podcast, I am joined by my good friend TL Amor. TL Amor (she/her) is an international school teacher, an incredible singer, a ukulele player, and one of the funniest and most warm-hearted people that I know <3

TL and I met during our freshman year at IU, and we have been friends for about thirteen years now (!!!). During our undergrad, we had a lot of fun attending cool events hosted by the Kinsey Institute and other IU sex-positive organizations, going to parties, creating our Halloween costumes (including the ones we mention in the episode and pictured down below), going to karaoke at Bear’s Place, and just hanging out. TL and I have remained friends since college, meeting up every year or two (or three!) to catch up.

Safe sex fairy and Katy Perry (from the “I Kissed a Girl” video) circa 2013. The condoms that TL stuffed in her bra worked out well (she gave them out to many people, safer sex woohoo!), but the whipped cream that I was trying to shoot from my “boobs” did not function properly (turns out whipped cream in cans has to be cold in order to shoot out in all its glory).

TL is not in the sexuality field, but I’ve always loved the talks that we have about sex, and this conversation was no different. We talked about so many things, including:

  • Having the sex talk (spoiler alert: it wasn’t her mom that gave it to her!)

  • Her experience with hookup culture & the peer pressure to conform

  • Being fetishized on dating apps for being fat

  • Solo sex, sex toys, and the process of learning about her body and what she likes in bed

  • Being a clitbitch (fuck yes!)

  • Her tendency to think about other people’s pleasure, and not her own – even during solo sex

  • The positive impact of having a partner who cares about our pleasure

  • Her tips for having sex that is more aligned with your own wants and needs

  • Being a teacher & her advice to parents for talking to their kids about sex

Eating Korean food in LA back in 2021! TL came through LA on her way back to the US after teaching in Korea for 5 years, and we went to a Korean restaurant, where she showed us a few delicious dishes.

I’m so grateful that TL agreed to be on the podcast. The things that TL said during our talk made me laugh at some moments and feel like crying at others.

I can’t wait for you to listen - hopefully it helps you discover something new about yourself and/or feel less alone in your experiences.

Stay tuned - TL will have her own podcast later this year, and I’ll be sure to update this page when she does!

Sex is something that we all navigate at some point in our lives, but it isn’t something that we often get accurate information about or talk about with our friends, doctors, therapists, lovers, or even spouses. This silence and shame can affect us in many ways – including in preventing us from having better sex. Join Kelsey Britt, a certified sexuality educator and trauma-informed yoga teacher as she talks to sexuality professionals, teachers, parents, health & wellness practitioners, and other folks about what messages they received about sex across their lives and how these messages have impacted their lives and work. If you’ve ever felt alone in your experience around sex, or just want to improve your sex life, this podcast is for you!
